🍄The MycoVerse: From Vision to First Steps [full video] Sound ON
Disclaimer: As mentioned earlier, this update is a little less structured. I’ve decided not to send it out via email, as it was already shared on Instagram. However, I believe it’s important to document the full process here as well. If you’ve already seen this content, feel free to skip ahead, and stay tuned for a new post coming later today.
I’ve been tending this vision quietly for a while now. Mulching ideas in my head and heart, letting spores burst and settle. But this week, something shifted. I took the first physical step towards the MycoVerse becoming real.
I connected with Dean from Tunnel Hill Mushrooms. Dean is a passionate, intelligent kindred spirit. My friend Georgia (fellow mama, scientist, and intrepid soul) came along for the ride. We asked a lot of questions. Dean generously shared his journey, knowledge, and a glimpse into what’s possible when you follow an unexpected path.
Like mycelium, this project starts with connection.
Dean was once an electrician, but life rerouted him and he ended up buying a property with an old train tunnel (bonus!) One day, someone suggested it would be a good place to grow mushrooms… and the idea took root. Now Tunnel Hill is thriving. They grow stunning varieties, host fungi-focused gatherings, long lunches with guest chefs, and have been involved in Beaker Street science-art festival.
There’s so much happening in the fungi space right now. So much brilliance. And this is just the beginning for the MycoVerse.
I’ve started this Substack to share the unfolding journey, including behind-the-scenes glimpses, inspiration, and slow but steady steps toward cultivating something bigger. Something sustainable, awe-inducing and regenerative.
If you’d like to follow along, there are tiered subscription options, but you're most welcome to choose 'free'. And please share with any fungi enthusiasts you know. I’m interested to hear your thoughts x
